August
This month has been fairly productive in terms of art, especially the first half which at that time was still summer break. Of course, my available time has decreased once school began, at least I could see my school friends again. I enjoyed my time during break though. Here’s a summary of what I’ve achieved in August:
Rendering
Though I didn’t do too much rendering this month, I think I found a nice way to shade. I created a full-body illustration of a new character I got recently—a bat. While I’m generally not inclined towards furry characters, the original design was just a normal bat but it just had paws, so I think they are pretty cool. The style was lineless and then to shade I used an opposite color from red; in this case blue to add hue to what would be the darker parts of the character. I’ve tried this before but the hue of blue was the same on every shadow so it looked odd, this time I did much better since I changed it a bit depending on the original color of the place I was going to shade. At the very end of the month I also made one more piece as a gift for my friend while I was on a road-trip, I tried a sort of behind-leaf scattered light. I’m not sure what the name for that is. I think it looks ok for a first attempt and I kind of like it!

My progress in tweening. I finished owed art for a character trade, which was a great opportunity to practice tweening because that’s what they wanted from me. I’m glad I learned tweening since so many people are interested in animated art. I’m very happy with how much I’ve improved in this area. I successfully was able to make a 3D-like effect when characters turn to the side, adding a new layer of depth to my animations. This effect has made the movements appear more dynamic. However, achieving this came with its own set of challenges and cons. The process is quite time-consuming and involves managing numerous layers to make the perspective work, which can be a bit tiring. So I don’t do super complex characters because they are hell to make layers for. Also I don’t understand live2d physics, I’ve been trying for a while but its so complex and then i just lose focus and get bored. I know live2d is usually for Vtuber creating but I don’t really have the patience to make something that difficult and large. The smaller little guys are nice to make though.
NONE OF THE DRAWS ARE FOR FREE USE SORRY! They are someone else’s characters I drew!

Additionally, I worked on several smaller, simpler character designs. These included a few free designs and some more cheap ones for money. I’ve found that I can produce these characters relatively quickly, which allows me to experiment with that style. I also made some effort designs which I rather like to be honest, and I love being about to create my ideas. Lineless styles are fun to experiment with. I still don’t know what type of designs suit me, creepy, colorful, cute, they are all fine with me. And im trying to start up my toyhou.se account too so i did some raffle designs I don’t really have too much to say about the designs but ill just put them below.
Overall, August has been a month of growth and experimentation. The advancements in tweening and the exploration of new character designs have been particularly rewarding, despite the inherent challenges. I’m looking forward to continuing this momentum and tackling new artistic endeavors in the coming months.
