My progress for July
My Artfight, animation and more.

Artfight
This year’s Artfight didn’t quite go as I had hoped. Unfortunately, I lost motivation and only managed to complete 12 attacks. It’s disappointing, but I’m determined to improve and do better next time. In the meantime, I’ve got some art that needs to be finished this month, and I’m working to get it all done before school starts in August.
Rendering
As for rendering, I’ve been experimenting with a lineless style which has been both challenging and rewarding. Using a reference from Pinterest, I tried out a new lighting technique that involves lighting from the back and side. While my rendering skills are still a work in progress, I’m seeing improvement and am eager to learn how to add more detail to my work. I’m getting a little better at colors for shading now. I take some inspiration from other very cool artists I like whether it’s coloring, technique or feel, while learning from other much better artists I feel like I’m also getting better. But of course I can’t take full inspiration, then it wouldn’t be MY style. I hope no one gets mad over that.
The art to the side of this post was an attack for someone, I love their characters! They are all very pretty in my opinion. This is the piece I tried lighting from the back on, I think it looks alright, but the headphones do look a bit wonky and the fin is unshaded, I tried not to spend too much time but i still don’t understand a lot about lighting.
Other
In animation, I’ve been focusing on improving my tweening skills. I’ve learned how to create more fluid and bouncy animations, which has been a lot of fun. Additionally, I’ve figured out how to incorporate blinking into character animations, adding more expressiveness to my work.
I’ve also been exploring clean-lined art and experimenting with colors. Picking colors used to be a major challenge for me, but I’ve found some strategies that help. Creating a color palette beforehand has helped a lot. Tools like Adobe Color and Coolors are great for generating palettes that I can refer to during the design process. Additionally, playing around color theory has been pretty useful. Understanding how colors interact to create harmony or contrast helps me make quicker choices to help achieve better results in my designs or art.
This month, I created and sold two adopts to fund a purchase. Making those little characters was fun for me, although I do wish I could work on designs more efficiently. I’m still not sure what makes a design attractive. I also want to improve at designing, but I think it will also improve if my art gets better. I’m not entirely sure though. The two characters are shown below (Not for free use, someone else owns them now). The themes were jester and color bomb. Both are just strange little kitties.

My Artfight attacks
Here below are my own attacks on other people.

Attack by others
Art NOT by me, but I owned the characters. I loved each attack I got and some people I need to revenge next year… Thank you to everyone who did attack me!!!
